Formula 1 driver Liam Lawson revealed he narrowly avoided a life-threatening collision during Sunday's Mexico City Grand Prix when two marshals darted across the track directly in front of him

The concerning event happened on the third lap when safety workers were seen on the track as Lawson was returning to the race following an premature pit stop to swap his compromised front wing

Competitor's Live Reaction

Moments later, Racing Bulls driver Lawson radioed to his race engineer saying: "You've got to be joking? Could you believe what happened? I could have... killed them"

"I genuinely couldn't process what I was observing"

"I exited on a new set of hards, and then I arrived at Turn One and there were just two guys dashing across the track"

"I nearly hit one of them, truthfully, it was so dangerous"

Security Issues Highlighted

"Evidently there's been a communication breakdown somehow but I've never experienced that before, and I haven't previously witnessed that in the past. It's pretty unacceptable"

"We cannot comprehend how on a ongoing race track marshals can be authorized to just run across the track like that. I'm clueless about the cause, I'm sure we'll get some sort of explanation, but this absolutely cannot recur"

Governing Body Reviewing

F1's overseeing organization, the International Automobile Federation (FIA), is actively examining the circumstances

"After an occurrence at turn one, track officials was advised that wreckage remained on the track at the apex of that corner" commented the regulatory authority

"In the third rotation, safety personnel were notified and put on alert to go onto the racing surface and recover the debris once the entire field had cleared the area"

"The moment it was realized that Lawson had made a pit stop, the orders to send marshals were withdrawn and a caution signal was displayed in that zone"

"Our inquiry continues what occurred subsequent to that time"
