Pep Guardiola Hails Erling Haaland and Gianluigi Donnarumma as Outstanding After Victory Over Brentford
The City boss expressed gratitude that his squad boasts the Norwegian striker scoring and the Italian goalkeeper stopping them, after a win at Brentford that came at the cost of another injury concern for Rodri.
The Striker's Impressive Performance
"I have an extraordinary striker and keeper," remarked Guardiola, with the forward's ninth-minute goal proving the winning one. His recent performances are approaching the standards of City's treble-winning season, as the No 9 has found the net in nine straight games. "He's the best," added his boss. "During the year of the three trophies, he scored – how many? – countless goals In my view he's integrated now, he's settled. He feels now that it's mine."
Donnarumma's Crucial Intervention
Regarding Donnarumma's decisive save from the opponent, Guardiola stated: "He began to perform at the top level at seventeen. When they told me he's 26 it's like he's had decades of football. His composure, his aura. Against teams who are strong you face one piece of action and he succeeded today. One against one."
Guardiola's Milestone Achievement
Pep achieved the individual milestone of 250 Premier League wins, surpassing Sir Alex Ferguson and Wenger in attaining that number in a record 349 games. "I will treat them to a good dinner, maybe not in Manchester, somewhere sunnier," he said of those iconic coaches. "Or in the city. It is an honour and a pleasure to be in the league's history. I say thanks to the club and the players and the backroom team I had. We did it quicker and faster. Now we aim for another 250 games more."
The Midfielder's Fitness Setback
Regarding the player's hamstring issue, the latest problem after a serious knee issue previously, Guardiola said: "I'd prefer to have him frequently but following a year it occurs constantly, it is so demanding. This is why we attempted to be gentle, play for an hour or so but it can't continue."
Brentford's Response
Keith Andrews, expressed satisfaction that his side improved after City's opening period dominance to pose a danger until the full-time signal. "Our aim to do is bring a team together, a club together, after numerous changes," he stated. "I think it's growing. I believe you could observe that in the second half showing today against elite rivals."
